Cold Weather = Cold Production Day!
We officially began filming the 2010 season on February 12 and are already experiencing the challenges of filming outdoors--THE WEATHER! What started out a calm and sunny morning, didn't last. As I learned last year, shooting a television show is a lot about standing around and waiting. Put that outdoors in February, take away the sun and add a little breeze--and it doesn't take long to get chilled; really chilled. But we love the show and are willing to make a few sacrifices along the way. Why did we start so early in the season you may ask? Well, when working with volunteers, you quickly learn that no matter how dedicated they are--they have other lives--other responsibilities and commitments besides working on these shows. So trying to find "are you available?" time, coordinating talent schedules, checking production crew availability (these too are volunteers), and it quickly becomes a scheduling nightmare. So, we start early to capture an episode or two and hope the viewing audience will bear with us in these early episodes where our noses are red, hands in our pockets and forgive any signs of discomfort. By the way Brady, where was the hot chocolate?--Merry, Associate Producer and master gardener
